- 填写并签署 PassportAffidavit(护照声明表)。

First-time China Visa (Q): Old PRC Passport Expired or Lost
In principle, a previous PRC passport is required for your first China visa. If you cannot find it, it may still be possible, but the process becomes more complex and timelines are less predictable. See the two scenarios below.
1) Old PRC Passport Expired (incl. timeline not contiguous with U.S. passport)
Please prepare:
- A short statement (title suggested: Declaration of Expired PRC Passport).
- Fill and sign the PassportAffidavit.
- Expired only: “I have not applied for a new PRC passport after my previous one expired.”
- Expired & not contiguous with U.S. passport: “Between the expiry of my PRC passport and acquiring U.S. nationality / obtaining a U.S. passport, I have not applied for a new PRC passport.”
Most cases are processed within regular timelines. In rare cases, the consulate may request extra documents or initiate verification in China (see “Lost” below). If verification is initiated, our office charges an additional $100 service fee.
2) Old PRC Passport Lost
This route is very cumbersome but still possible. It usually requires verification with your original household registration locale in China, so the timeline is uncertain — typically 6–8 weeks, sometimes longer (historically, some cases completed in just over a week). The duration mainly depends on domestic authorities, not the consulate directly.
Pre‑assessment
Please email us for a quick pre‑assessment. We will send additional forms for you to complete and scan back.
Helpful supporting docs
- A photocopy of your old PRC passport (e.g., from your historical green‑card application file) greatly helps speeding up verification.
- Any other records that can indirectly substantiate identity or travel history.
Service fee: If domestic verification is initiated, our office charges an additional $100.
FAQ
Cannot find the old passport — impossible to apply?
Not necessarily. You can proceed under the “lost + verification in China” path, but expect a more complex process and uncertain timeline. Pre‑assessment is recommended.
What does “non‑contiguous timeline” mean?
It refers to a gap between your expired PRC passport and obtaining U.S. nationality / a U.S. passport. In this case, hand‑write the extra statement on the affidavit.
How long does verification take? Can it be expedited?
It largely depends on domestic authorities in China; 6–8 weeks is common, sometimes longer. Please email to confirm any current rush options.
Note: Policies may change. The accepting mission (Embassy/Consulate) has final discretion.
